And so May begins.... As if we could be any busier... Sheesh!!!
As we speak, there are 13 more days of school... Hay has been cut for the first time and is already in the
barn. THAT is a whole story in itself- Murphy's Law was alive and well with us during the entire hay process...
The upper 40 is fenced (finally) and we just lack making a couple "gap fillers" to cover where a couple ditches
run under the fence before we let the goats loose up there.
Garden is not in yet, but the seedlings are more than ready. Of course, we have a week ahead of us full of
storms and rain. With our long growing season I am not too concerned...
Goat-kids
are about ready to be weaned before they go to their new home in Oklahoma. Ginger
and Blackbird, two of our year old heifers, have found new homes with some of their sisters on the eastern part of the state.
Our new baby calves are growing and are just too cute. I believe that Valinor has settled a couple "matrons"
in the herd, after a 2 week break in bulls he will replace Ace with the main herd to get the new moms bred back. Trying
to get him a new home in the meantime as we really only need one bull.
Savannah
finished up her state music and art competitions, score very well in both. Have not heard abou ther audition with the
youth symphony yet but she went there knowing it was more for the experience of playing for "an audition" than anything.
Her musicianship has improved this year- next year will be totally awesome.
Glenn
is working on making more bee hive stands- we have 4 nucs coming this month and I have yet to catch me a wild swarm..
I know they are out there. Looking to find some lye so I can try making goat milk soap- won't that be cool?
Until later, just waiting for the weather to stop raining a bit so I can set the garden out. Fruit trees are
LOADED down- actually need to thin some fruits!
-Happy May!
