June, and summer is here....
Got the first cutting of hay in the barn back in early May, but when we closed
the barn doors to keep it dry from a week-long rain, it soured. Oh well- we have since installed air vents so the barn
will be able to breathe with the doors closed... Bought a new drum mower as the old sickle bar was having issues.
Glenn is out there now cutting... Yippie! Talk about a cool mower- this thing rocks!
Savannah has a full summer schedule planned. Between youth activities, summer school and band camp she is a
busy bee indeed. Good news is that she is taking "double" PE in summer school and that means no more during
the school years ahead.
Animals are all fine.
Two cows left to calve and judging by their udders it should not be much longer. 5 hives of bees grace the driveway
and all are doing well. Goats love the new "upper 40" and are looking right slick.
The garden is producing- peas, asparagus, chard, strawberries and from the
fruit trees- sweet and sour cherries. We have been eating large lately and know we are getting spoiled. Made strawberry
jam the other day- canned sunshine.
Will be heading
to TX in a couple weeks for the Pape Goat Field Day. Goat folks from far and near will be converging in central TX for
a "first ever" Spanish and Savannah goat event. I plan on bringing home a couple young bucklings and will
be delivering the last of my January does to a buyer in Oklahoma on the way south.
Other than that, pretty much doing the same old, same old... Morning chores, breakfast- afternoon chores, lunch-
more chores and then it is time to quit.. Unless there are bales in the field..
Until later-
Mary Jane
p.s. Yes, I have started a blog... Am unsure as to its future-
mainly, does anyone have time to read the journal of a ranting farmer?? Check it out at the link at the bottom of the
page.
